It’s Tuesday, allergies are playing havoc with my ability to handle stress, and I’ve not had a day off in a few weeks. My coffee is delicious, however, and I’m taking a mental health day to rest my weary synapses. This is always dangerous, and the result are some random TTRPG thoughts.
- I’ve started unsubscribing to a number YouTube channels which use a lot of clickbait TTRPG topics. I just don’t have bandwidth to filter out all the deliberate triggering.
- My Monday group completed a Shadowdark funnel last night. My surviving character is now a Dwarf Wizard and I want to play him more. We survived thanks to several favorable charisma checks!
- Our local brewery has added Wednesday hours for its tasting room, so my next Numenera Session is heading back on the road!
- I had players give up watching the NBA playoffs to be in our Basic Fantasy RPG game last week. That was cool. Also, they found a magical violin bow 1.
- I need to set up a Forbidden Lands test pretty soon.
- Chris Gonnerman uploaded some reflections on Safety Tools last week. A central tenant is, in my words, empathy is a really good thing. It’s worth the watch.
- My little was home from school last week, so I took him on a short Dragonbane crawl. When it was complete he said, “Now I’m the Game Master” and sat in my chair. He proceed to send me on an adventure with mechanics he made up on the fly and gave me a hireling. It ended with a TPK and the little saying, “I win” and doing a dance.
- I am working on a charity stream for a local organization dedicated to passing on a love of reading in children. Booksmiles helps children build a personal library and provides access to teachers so they can create their own lending libraries. I find this to be a perfect compliment for a role-playing game stream. I have no idea what I’m doing and do not want to get near raised funds, so suggestions would be most welcome. This is exciting!
- Not having a personal like for a specific game does not make it a bad game. I do not care for 5e, and Kids On Bikes doesn’t resonate with me for some reason. But they are good games, they just don’t hit the mark for me. It would be amazing if the hobby space stopped slicing itself into pieces because it confuses personal preference with objective reality.
- I’ve got two possible weekends for Ecclesicon ’25 next year. The announcement will be soon!

I have no idea what it does. ↩

Perhaps the bow should be used by a fighter/barbarian — someone with a history of violins. (I’ll let myself out).

I mean, it’s a violin bow because the player who joined the group put searching for it in his backstory…though it didn’t say what KIND of bow…puns are building into this thing!

Players choosing your campaign over the playoffs is the ultimate compliment. Good going, Wes.
