Random TTRPG Thoughts #38

Summer’s almost over and I’m itching to play some games, but my schedule is suddenly filled. That doesn’t stop my brain from firing out random nonsense, though. I’m just grateful coffee is able to turn them into actual words. These are random TTRPG thoughts.

  1. I’ve made the map for my first original Into the Odd adventure. I want to make my maps in that game’s style from now on, it’s FUN.
  2. My BFRPG group had a much better session last week. I had a branching path for them to choose, both routes were going to be weird and unsettling, and at least one of my players was freaked out. He loved it, and that made me glad.
  3. Have you ever just had a moment where you just wanted to throw up a balloon and invite people to test out a game with absolutely zero prep?
  4. Why do dice hate me?
  5. My copy of Pendragon is mocking me. I need to make it stop. This means giving in to its demands to be read but I can live with that.
  6. Monte Cook Games’ Rust & Redemption is also crying out for attention.
  7. What’s your favorite TTRPG genre to play? If it’s fantasy, since that’s a lot of folk’s starting point, what’s your second favorite?
  8. I’d remark on the unsatisfying feeling that comes with rolling a d4, but I’m afraid they’ll get revenge by turning off the lights and hiding on the floor in high-traffic areas.
  9. Check out the Ironbound Backerkit campaign for d12 modern urban fantasy goodness. It launches September 1st!
  10. If you’re in the Philly/South Jersey area, come out to Palmyra, NJ on September 28 for an afternoon of gaming at Ecclesicon: Day of Adventure!

  1. I’ve gone through a lot of phases with second favorite genre’s. At first it was Space Opera (looking at you classic Traveller), then Post-Apocalyptic (Gamma World), then Super Heroes (Villains & Vigilantes), then Cosmic Horror (various Cthulhu centric games – Call of Cthulhu, Cthulhu Hack, and Cthulhu Dark).
This last got me into Carved from Brindlewood Games, and right now modern horror-mystery (Public Access) has even supplanted Fantasy (AD&D) as my favorite game of the week.

  2. Star Trek, because the solutions to the problems generally don’t involve combat. Not that there isn’t some combat in every scenario, but avoiding it is encouraged too.
