Random TTRPG Thoughts #53

It’s the Tuesday after Pax Unplugged and I’m waiting for the coffee to brew. As I sit here forcing my brain to reboot my synapses are being shocked awake—triggering flashes of post-coffee lucidity. These are random TTRPG thoughts.

  1. This year was the first time I’d scheduled interviews at PaxU. I appreciate how this allowed me to have some longer conversations with people, but it did reduce the amount of time I was able to wander the expo hall.
  2. My thanks to Paladin Prose for saying hi in the media room and inviting me to sit over at his table. It was the type of kindness I’ve come to expect at PaxU. Go check out his channel!
  3. I didn’t kill that many characters during my Numenera sessions as I was expecting. Monte Cook’s Charles Ryan was a tad surprised by this, so I’m wondering if I wasn’t mean enough. Believe me when I say, “This isn’t as bad as it sounds.”
  4. Three years in to attending PaxU and I’ve not got a good number (for me, anyway) of “Con Friends.” Chances are when I’m walking around I’ll bump into someone I know or have interacted with before. It makes the crowd feel smaller, which keeps my introverted “flee for the hills” reaction quiet.
  5. The other thing that keeps my introverted instincts quiet at PaxU is having a plan. Friday evening—after working interviews, walking the hall, having lunch with folks, and running a four hour game—a friend of mine asked, “So you’re extroverted for a whole day, how are you?” And, I was pretty much fine because the plan kept things small.
  6. I am bummed my schedule didn’t allow me to meet Simone and Rico, from Two Little Mice, in person. They are so great and it would be been nice to see them face to face.
  7. PaxU is November 21-23 next year. This is making my wife happy because it means I’m around more during the prime decorating period (I am the box lugger and child wrangler). But it’s also the weekend of the Philly Marathon. Book your rooms now, and do not expect to commute in by car. Stay in Jersey and take the PATCO.
  8. I didn’t get my Wild Bill’s soda this year. There was no time. I’m thinking next year I may not even bring my mug.
  9. My DJI Osmo Pocket 3 was pretty much the perfect device for walking the expo hall, but having the right focus mode on is also a good thing (this operator is a dingbat).
  10. Special shout out to Dave from Grimwood Games, Jacob and Dan from Avenue Studios, and Dave from Gamers on Games. I appreciate you folks so much.
  11. Doug Shute is going to be amazing working for GAMA. Congratulations on the new job, Doug!
