Random TTRPG Thoughts #62
It’s dark outside, the coffee is brewing, and on the Babylon 5 timeline we are rapidly approaching the first part of season 3. These are random TTRPG thoughts.
- Role-playing games are a subversive hobby because they teach players their choices have meaning. That’s a powerful reality in a world where the oligarchs want us feeling powerless.
- Monty Python’s Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Programme has one of the best essays on how to declare a character’s actions that I’ve ever read. It’s also hysterical because it’s written like a Monty Python sketch.
- I have a difficult time trying to pay attention to high fantasy games, both when I’m playing and when I’m watching other play. It just feels like everything is so gummed up once initiative starts. And it’s weird because I keep getting told that it’s “not really that bad.” For me, it is.
- I want to pick up Paranoia, but at this point the game might feel too real.
- I may need to set up a Heckin’ Good Doggos adventure where the pack defends the neighborhood from an evil muskrat and its lizard allies.
- GAMA supports DEI and has put out a statement on what that means for their organization moving forward. Applause.
- Ecclesicon 2025 is coming soon! Get your badges and come hang out as we play amazing games.
- I think we need a new Babylon 5 RPG. Playing a Ranger, walking in the shadows to stand against darkness, feels like something the world could use right now…for some reason.
- The Philadelphia Area Gaming Expo is sponsoring a free pizza dinner at Ecclesicon 2025! Ron has been a huge friend of this tiny convention and I am grateful for his continued kindness!
