Random TTRPG Thoughts #79
We’re living in a “heat dome” here in the Delaware Valley, I’m two Sundays away from the start of my Sabbatical, and I’ve been in solitude most of this week. The coffee’s been all mine, and my brain is tingling with a strange sensation. These are random TTRPG thoughts.
- I remain nervous as all get out to run games at conventions or other open events because I do not feel qualified. Does anyone else feel that way?
- I had a slog battle in our Dragonbane session last week, which felt odd. It was the first time that happened running the system.
- I just watched a video by GinnyDi where she talks about playing the Gr8 System and what she missed about D&D while playing it. The video was terrific because it does what all reviews should do, she states what she likes about D&D and why she likes it. She doesn’t expect people to agree, quite the opposite, but states where she’s at. Just…yes. Thanks Ginny.
- I am very much looking forward to running some new games during my sabbatical. I wonder what I should start with?
- I am feeling more and more comfortable running Sentinel Comics RPG, and it’s so much fun. Last night I ran a session for an online convention called CRIT and in the first encounter a timer counted down and the narrative ended in a wild spin as a result. What a blast.
- Constitutional rights are not only for US Citizens, nor does it grant rights. The Constitution is the law of the land which guarantees rights folks considered to be the default for humanity. And, yah, the framers’ understanding of who was fully human and had these default rights was skewed. But we’ve been trying to grow into the ideal for over 200 years. Let’s not stop.
- I feel like Paranoia is an ideal system to start playing at this point in history. But I can’t put my finger on why that is.
- I am grateful to Derek White, the Geek Preacher, for who he is and what he does. Go check out his stuff.
- Expanding your TTRPG palate is a lot like trying new foods. You may not enjoy everything you taste but your appreciation for the breadth of the hobby will increase the more games you sample. And, as with food, you may have concepts you see as non-starters. That’s OK! I don’t like slimy food, it gives me the shivers.
- We have some friends joining us for part of our vacation this year. I’m bringing games to run!
