Random TTRPG Thoughts #17

It’s Thursday, the first three days of the week have left my stomach lurching and my brain rattled from fever-induced fog. Get ready, these are random TTRPG thoughts.

  1. Jim Ward passed away this week. Gamma World was my absolute favorite RPG setting ever, and the first edition Gamma World box set was the first non-D&D game I ever owned. He will be missed, rest in peace.
  2. Ecclesicon has hit 40 players. My goal was 50, there’s still room for you, especially on Friday night and Saturday morning. Come to Palmyra, NJ April 12-14 and roll some dice!
  3. My illness meant that I had to bail on the Shadowdark funnel I’m in. I chomping at the bit to get back to it!
  4. Most of my Basic Fantasy RPG table is sick as well, with March Madness. So I’m trying to plan out a Dragonbane crawl for some remnants.
  5. March has had a flood of new crowd funding projects and actual releases. It’s been difficult not pulling the trigger on all of them.
  6. Speaking of crowd funding, I’m a fan of OpenLegend RPG, but it does lack a really good bestiary. My friend Jacob is looking to rectify that with his proposed Binder of Beasties. Yes, I backed it.
  7. My friend Dave is at Pax East this week. If you see someone wearing a Grimwood Games shirt ask him about his Ironbound system!
  8. The last two points kinda show how TTRPGS are really about friendship.
  9. Speaking of which, check out Chrysogon’s Coterie. It’s an old school compendium of NPCs designed for BFRPG but is compatible with just about any old school system. It’s by my friend, Todd Lyons.
  10. I had one character in my BFRPG game die, he was brought back to live by some terrific use of the lore and immediate surroundings, but the character has been changed. I’m really proud of how the player decided to reveal how he’s been changed to the rest of the party, almost like the character is discovering things himself.
