Upcoming Reviews

I have been reading a lot of TTRPG books over the past few weeks, with more still sitting on my shelf. So I wanted to let readers here know what’s coming up on my YouTube channel! The next couple of weeks are going to be rather full, so I may even do a couple of written reviews for the site.

Godforsaken [Review Copy]

This is Monte Cook Games’ fantasy supplement for The Cypher System. It’s full of cool art, great advice, and a fascinating setting. Godforsaken will be the next video review that I’ll do.

Cypher System has become one of my favorite systems to run because it’s so simple, not just for players but for GMs as well.

The Dragonbane Bestiary [Review Copy]

Dragonbane continues to fascinate me, and the new bestiary fills in one of the only holes the box set had. The book also adds a number of playable kin to the game, which should appeal to a lot of players. The book itself is a stunning product.

I already did a quick look at the book on the channel, but a full review is on tap.

The Origin

A Monte Cook Games twist on a modern setting. The Origin mixes the Heroes TV show, The X-Files, and Warehouse 13 into a fantastic superpower game filled with intrigue and grit. I flew through this book and cannot wait to bring some people together to play it.

Shadowdark

If it weren’t. For Dragonbane, Shadowdark would be my favorite fantasy RPG system right now. And even with Dragonbane it’s a close second. The game is fast, creepy, dangerous, and so fast to pick up. People complain about the layout because the font is larger, but it speeds up the process of using the book. That’s a good thing.

Forbidden Lands

I read Forbidden Lands last year, but never managed to bring it to the channel. I’m now re-reading the players book and, this is an interesting game laid out like a love letter to the books of the 1980s.

Heckin Good Doggos

I picked up Heckin Good Doggos at PaxU last year and it’s been sitting on my shelf, mocking me. I purchased this because I’ve been looking for games to play with my young son and it looked interesting. I like the folks at Wet Ink Games, so I am expecting to enjoy the book.

Dark Places & Demogorgons for OSE

This is another book that’s been sitting on my shelf, mocking me. I reviewed the first edition of DP&D on my channel, but this switches the game to the Old School Essentials engine and I’m eager to see what’s changed. The interior is well designed. This is a terrific game if you want to play out Stranger Things with your friends.

Household [Review Copy]

I don’t know why this game keeps falling off my radar. It’s sitting on my shelf in all my videos! Household is by Two Little Mice, and player characters are tiny people who live in an old mansion where each room is its own kingdom.

The folks at Two Little Mice are fantastic, this setting is amazing, the product itself is a work of art. As I’m pondering, I think this book may be jumping up in the queue a bit. A visit to this cool world is long overdue!

Raccoon Sky Pirates

Raccoon Sky Pirates is a GMless game where players control anthropomorphic animals who build a sky ship. Why? To raid the suburbs, of course! This is another game I picked up at PaxU. I’ve read the rules but haven’t had a chance to play through it with people. What I can tell you, though, is that it is nuts in all the right ways.

Hyperborea

Weird and wild science fantasy on a flat world, shaped like a hexagon, that orbits a dying red sun. Hyperborea basically runs on the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1e engine, but replaces the races and classes of that game with different cultures and tropes that fits a more swords and sorcery setting. I picked up the current edition’s two core books as PDF last Winter, and received print copies as presents this past Christmas. While AD&D isn’t my normal jam, I’m more of a B/X type person, the setting and classes look really wild and if I get a chance to play this game I won’t hesitate for a second.
