Random TTRPG Thoughts #4

It’s Friday. I have yet to imbibe coffee, and my brain is all sideways. I will now subject you my non-caffeinated misfiring neurons. These are random TTRPG thoughts.

  1. I had some folks say some rather kind things about my channel this week. That’s both gratifying and humbling.
  2. The Crayola Experience has a “puzzle maker” activity. I have the drawing ability of a drunk slug…so I drew a dungeon map. It’s now a puzzle.
  3. One interesting things about “players always roll” games is helping players grasp how they can’t take offensive actions during a defense roll. Flipping the bed over on an attacker, on the other hand, is OK.
  4. After this week’s Numenera session the group has come up with a name for itself, “Murder Fire 13b.” It’s no where near as ominous as it sounds.
  5. We didn’t have a Basic Fantasy RPG session this week, which is good because we ended an adventure arc and I’m trying to figure out what the immediate aftermath is 1.
  6. I signed up for the Philly Area Gaming Expo this week. I’m going to get to play in my first DCC funnel so I’m rather excited.
  7. I’ve come to the point when I enjoy it when my characters fail. When I first jumped back into the hobby during the first shut down I was not in a place where I appreciated this.
  8. My channel’s upload this week was an “Oh shoot, I am not read for this review so let me do this quick” endeavor. It’s one of the best performing videos I’ve done in the last year. That’s weird.
  9. I’ve been back in the hobby for three years and have managed to play nine different systems2.
  10. I am amazed by how many games out there to play. the well is deep!
  1. A town falling into a plane-shifting abyss is on the table.

  2. And I’m bummed at how many games I haven’t been able to get to the table.

  1. I watched a video today from a woman who made an impromptu review video that made more money and had more hits than her other 66 “crafted” videos combined. Her advice: don’t try guessing. Make the videos you want you make. Some will be wildly successful. Others will fall on deaf ears. To a lesser extent, I’ve experienced the same in my meager 2-months on YouTube. My most successful video is me showing off some books. My third most popular video is me talking about how I love simple RPGs and flipping through one of them. Both were panicked “filler” content when I needed something quick. Both make me realize that a simple, unscripted foray into the unknown with whatever idea pops into my head is what I will continue to do. Forgive my “Uhms”. 🙂
