Random TTRPG Thoughts #9

It’s the week before Christmas, last week was nuts, and I’m halfway through my morning coffee. Happy holidays, everyone! These are random TTRPG thoughts.

  1. I enjoy running hex crawls. Something is always happening and the tension is ever-growing. So much fun.
  2. I’m going to do my first giveaway when my channel hits 3000 Subscribers. I’m 620 away.
  3. When I’m running a PC I like quirky characters who tend to put others on edge. Though I think my next PC should be a well-adjusted straight shooter1.
  4. In 2023 so far I ran six systems and played in three. Next week I’ll play in a fourth. That’s a good gaming year!
  5. What’s your favorite type of NPC?
  6. I can’t believe I’m planning a convention in Palmyra, NJ this coming April.
  7. Intrusions, both GM and player, are one of the most fun mechanics in the Cypher System. Stuff gets weird, and the narrative twists are fun.
  8. Shadowdark is SHIPPING. AHHHHHHH!!!!!
  9. I had some players who needed to drop out of the BFRPG session last night so I called an audible and taught dragonbane to the folks who could be there. We made 4 characters and did to combat demos. They are terrified by monsters, but lived.
  10. I got my shipping notification for Brindlewood Bay. That makes me happy.
  1. I mean, it’s fantasy, I might was well play “not me.”

  1. I recently got my Brindlewood Bay books. I think you’re going to be super happy with them. If playing Mavens isn’t your cup of tea, you might also look at Public Access. It’s a Carved from Brindlewood Game set in NM during the early 00’s. I’m a couple of sessions into a campaign and my players and I are loving it.

    • I reviewed the game last year from the PDF. It’s interesting. I think it needed to do a better job of explaining the mind-set of PBtA and it could use more art, but I do want to give it a try!
