I didn’t have any games this week, but that doesn’t prevent my internal randomizer1 from firing off in strange directions. Here’s some random TTRPG thoughts for the weekend.
- Ecclesicon badges are selling, the sales are slow. I am sweating. If you’re in the Philly/South Jersey area and have some free time April 12-14, come on out and roll some dice!
- I submitted a sabbatical grant proposal that would kick in July-August in 2025. Why is it in this list? Because the grant proposal is to write a TTRPG that can be used as a spiritual development tool.
- I started reading The Origin from Monte Cook Games and, I am hooked. Except now I need to go back and re-read the Cypher Core book. Drat.
- The Dragonbane Bestiary is printed on flat paper! I celebrate Free League’s wisdom!
- If you haven’t checked out the Cypher Unlimited Discord, and their weekly streams, it’s worth checking out.
- What would a 6 AM TTRPG session look like? I wonder if, pre-coffee, it would be all bar room brawls and murder-hoboing–only to shift into something less grumpy after the caffeine kicked in.
- I sometimes see folks ranting about people typing TTRPG instead of RPG because pen and paper RPGs were first. We humans latch on to weird things 2.
- I want to run a Shadowdark funnel. And I will, because its chaos is wonderful. I’ll probably run a DCC funnel at some point as well, but I’m more smitten with Shadowdark as a system.
- I must recommend against purchasing a Dungeon Crawl Classics soft-cover book. I did this, and it was a mistake because the book is huge and the soft cover is almost unreadable. If you made this mistake, Goodman Games gives a PDF code with every purchase3 so you can get the rules electronically. I will rectify my error in judgement at some point this year. Get the game, it’s wild, but get the hard bound book!
- I spent [too much] time tweaking the site yesterday. I need to optimize the images now but I like the results.

My brain, in case you were wondering. ↩
-
And people who reheat coffee in a microwave should be barred from drinking the beverage at all. If you need to reheat coffee it is stale, stop it. Change my mind. ↩
-
The code is on a sticker on the inside front cover. At least, it used to be. ↩

Convention badges tend to sell more at the beginning and end of the open period. Just an observation.
On the other hand… “Badges? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges!”

My brain knows this. My brain is also telling me that it’s not true and I need to sweat. My brain is weird. Thanks for the reminder!!
