Random TTRPG Thoughts #40

The weather has turned crisp, school’s back in session, and the trees are trying to kill me with pollen. As I punch through the combination morning/allergy brain fog my neurons wanders into corners that aren’t really there, then pings back chaotic information my brain misinterprets as thinking. These are random TTRPG thoughts.

  1. Every time I get to interview someone from the TTRPG hobby space I’m humbled that they’d make time for me.
  2. I have my Numenera group this week. Our newest player has jumped in with both feet and is have a blast. That makes me happy.
  3. My schedule prevented me from participating in two of my favorite online conventions, Runejammer and Cypher Con. And I might miss one that’s celebrating my friend Doug Shute that’s coming up as well. Darn you adult responsibilities!
  4. Last week my Thursday group played Dragonbane again. Every character survived!
  5. I love handwriting notes because the information sticks with me more than when I type them, even though I’m left-handed and my handwriting is atrocious. The problem is, I hate using paper (I think it’s the permanent graphite stain on my left hand that triggered this, IYKYN). Handwriting on my iPad is…OK…but it feels weird and the pencil slides a lot on the glass. So I’m considering picking up an eInk writing tablet for my TTRPG notebooks.
  6. The last player who needed to rolled up his Dragonbane character last week. He’s playing a Mallard Fighter who insists he’s a wizard. I love this concept.
  7. When I hit 4000 subscribers I’m giving away a copy of the 2nd Edition AD&D Players Handbook. So subscribe and help me get to that fun moment!
  8. I think I’ve figured out how to move my Basic Fantasy Game forward to a satisfying conclusion. It should be fun!
  9. Even though I have yet to read any of the book yet, I’ve started to work though the character creation process for the Sentinel Comics RPG. There’s some neat things about it which manage to merge random rolls with player agency. It has me intrigued.
  10. So I’ve got a Shadowdark Gauntlet scheduled for Ecclesicon: Day of Adventure on September 28. I’m seriously considering only pulling up my VTT for combat encounters. It would make the exploration more unnerving and, I think, more fun.

  1. Yah. When I ran ICRPG at PaxU last year I used a whiteboard and tokens I created. It worked great (except when I kept writing on the mat with the permanent marker). I don’t have time to make tokens right now, though, which kinda leaves me leaning toward a VTT. but we’ll see!
